EMU Volleyball Selected Sixth in MAC Preseason Poll

Chase named to the West Division Preseason All-MAC Team

- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball program was picked to finish sixth in the West Division in a vote by the Mid-American Conference's 12 head coaches, the league announced this morning, Aug. 24. The Eagles received 15 points in the preseason poll. 

Additionally, Raeven Chase (Toronto,Ontario-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic) was selected to the Preseason All-MAC Team as one of 13 of the league's top volleyball student-athletes. Chase represents the Eagles as one of seven athletes chosen in the preseason poll's Western Division. 

Defending MAC West Division and Tournament Champions Ball State University were unanimously chosen to take the West Division's regular season title with 72 points. The Cardinals also received 12 first place votes and four more to repeat as tournament champions. 

Western Michigan University followed behind in second with 55 points and one vote to win the tournament while the University of Toledo took third with 49 points. Behind the Broncos and the Rockets was Northern Illinois University and Central Michigan University, who garnered 32 and 29 points, respectively. 

Bowling Green State University, who tallied 72 points and 11 first-place votes, was picked to take the MAC's East Division. As defending MAC East Champions, the Falcons also received seven of a possible 12 votes to win the conference tournament. 

Ohio took second with 59 points while Kent State University landed in third with 40 points and one vote to win the division. The University at Buffalo (34), Miami University (32) and University of Akron (16) finished in the last three spots in the Eastern Division. 

The Eagles will start the 2021 campaign this weekend in East Lansing, Mich. at the Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. Friday afternoon, Aug. 26, will see EMU take on the University of Louisiana for the third time in program history at noon before taking on Fairfield University at 5 p.m. The following day, Aug.27, Eastern will face host Michigan State University for the first time since 2013 at noon.
