Head Coach Darcy Dorton announces seven summer camps

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Exactly one month from today, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball program will begin its 2022 summer camps, with the first Elite Camp kicking off the morning of July 17. 

EMU volleyball camps are open to any and all, limited only by age, gender, and capacity restrictions specified by each camp.

The Eastern volleyball program features a full-time staff of three former Division I collegiate players – Head Coach Darcy Dorton, Associate Head Coach Tyler Golsteyn, and Assistant Coach Jena Otec

Full Camp Schedule

July 17th – Elite Camp I 
»    Registration: 8 a.m.
»    Camp: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
»    Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
»    Gender: Female
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: $150
»    The Elite Camp is designed for athletes with varsity or high-level club experience. It is designed to push and instruct individual athletes with high level technical training. Players MUST have competitive volleyball experience to attend the Elite Camp. 

July 18th – Passing Clinic
»    Registration: 8 a.m. 
»    Camp: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
»    Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
»    Gender: Female
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: $75
»    This passing clinic is designed for the fundamental skill development of passing. This intense half day camp will focus on forearm and overhead passing. Players will be divided based on skill, and placed in groups where they will be challenged and improve their passing.

July 18th – Defense Clinic
»    Registration: 1 p.m. 
»    Camp: 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
»  Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
»    Gender: Female
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: $75
»    This defense clinic is designed for the fundamental skill development of the libero and defensive specialist positions. This intense half day clinic will focus on serving and defense. Campers will receive a lot of repetitions in all phases of these positions. Players will be divided based on skill, and placed in groups where they will be challenged and improve their overall defensive game. While this camp is targeted for liberos or defensive specialists, it is certainly NOT limited to those players.

July 19th – Blocking Clinic

»    Camp: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
»    Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
»    Gender: Female
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: $75
»    This blocking clinic is designed for the fundamental skill development of blockers in all positions. This intense half day clinic will focus on blocking technique, footwork, and developing an eye for reading hitters. Players will be divided based on skill, and placed in groups where they will be challenged and improve their blocking skills.

July 19th – Hitting Clinic
»    Registration: 1 p.m. 
»    Camp: 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
»    Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
»    Gender: Female
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: $75
»    This hitting clinic is designed for the fundamental skill development of hitters in all positions. This intense half day clinic will focus on hitting technique, footwork, and the ability to hit shots for all hitters. Players will be divided based on skill, and placed in groups where they will be challenged and improve their hitting skills.

July 20th – Setting Clinic
»    Registration: 8 a.m. 
»    Camp: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
»    Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
»    Gender: Female
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: $75
»    This setting clinic is designed for the fundamental skill development of the setting position. This intense half day clinic will focus on technique, footwork, and game strategy for setters. Players will be divided based on skill, and placed in groups where they will be challenged and improve their setting skills.

July 20th – Serving Clinic
»    Registration: 1 p.m. 
»    Camp: 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
»    Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
»    Gender: Female
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: $75
»    This serving clinic is designed to focus solely on serving. This camp will focus training multiple techniques for serving, along with improved consistency, and finding the serve that fits each athlete best. Campers will learn and improve through a combination of drill work and competition.

July 21st – Team Camp
»    Registration: 8 a.m.  
»    Camp: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
»    Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
»    Gender: Female
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: Varies
»    Each team will be assigned one camp coach and each high school will need to bring at least one school coach. Schools are encouraged to bring varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen teams. Coaches attending camp along with their teams may either observe or take part in the instruction at camp.

July 22nd – Volley Tots 
»    Registration: 8 a.m.  
»    Camp: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
»    Ages Welcome: K-5th Grade
»    Gender: Coed
»    Location: George Gervin GameAbove Center
»    Registration Fee: $100
»  Volley Tots is designed for beginning fundamental skill development. This is the perfect camp for those players who are just learning the game.

July 23rd – Elite Camp II

»    Ages Welcome: Entering 6th Grade to College Freshman
