Four offensive, two defensive, and a special teams players highlight the list

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – A total of six Eastern Michigan University football student-athletes were named Preseason All-Mid-American Conference by Phil Steele's College Football Preview, the magazine announced this week.

Junior offensive lineman Brian Dooley (Bowling Green, Ohio-Toledo St. John's Jesuit), senior wide receiver Hassan Beydoun (Dearborn, Mich.-Dearborn), junior defensive lineman Jose Ramirez (Lake Alfred, Fla.-Auburndale-Arizona-Riverside City), senior offensive lineman Sidy Sow (Bromont, Quebec-J-H Leclerc-Champlain Lennoxville) garnered the Eagles' first team selection, while senior wide receiver Dylan Drummond (Cleveland, Ohio-Cuyahoga Heights) and senior linebacker Joe Sparacio (Naples, Fla.-First Baptist Academy-Boston College) earned third team honors.

EMU also saw Beydoun on the fourth team as a specialist.

Dooley was a 13-game starter last year, spending 919 snaps on the field for the Green and White. Overall, he has appeared in 36 games for Eastern since stepping on the field in 2018. One of the most athletic linemen in the league, Dooley even showed the ability to play tight end in a set of games during his freshman campaign.

The Eastern rushing attack, largely made possible by Dooley and the offensive line, averaged better than 118 yards per game, and accounted for 26 of EMU's 48 touchdowns last season. Additionally, Dooley's group was critical in EMU's late-down efforts, where it converted 42 percent of third-down tries (73-of-175), and 48 percent of fourth-down attempts (14-of-29).

Earning conference honors for the second straight season, Beydoun brought home a second team nod in 2021. A nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the nation's best former walk-on, Beydoun was a critical factor in the explosiveness of the EMU offense last year. He finished the season with a program-record 94 receptions in a single season. His 1,015 yards receiving in 2021 was fourth-most in program history.

The former walk-on has 167 career receptions, a  number that is good for fourth-most in program history. Beydoun is on pace to take over the number one spot in the category, as he sits just 81 receptions shy of all-time leader Eric Deslauriers (248).

Overall, he recorded three games with 10+ catches last season. Beydoun was one of only three players in the NCAA to have three-or-more such games (Jerreth Sterns - Western Kentucky.; Drake London - Southern California).

Notching third team All-MAC honors in consecutive seasons, Ramirez dominated on the defensive line last season. He ranked 10th in the MAC with 6.5 sacks, a career-best mark for the Lake Alfred, Fla. native. Ramirez was third on the team with 63 tackles (32 solo, 31 assisted) in 2021, and leads the team with 12.0 tackles for loss. Ramirez also forced a team-leading three fumbles this season.

As a unit, EMU forced 16 turnovers in 2021, and scored points off of 14 (10 touchdowns, 4 field goals) of those opportunities. EMU scored 82 points off those turnovers, three as a direct result of the play, and 11 times in its subsequent offensive possession.

Earning All-MAC accolades in 2021 for the second time in his career, Sow emerged as one of the most dominant offensive linemen in the conference. Helping to anchor EMU's experienced group in the trench, Sow was a major factor in building the EMU offense into one of the best scoring units in the Mid-American Conference in 2021. Averaging 30.2 points per game, EMU put up 392 total points on 48 touchdowns, 19 field goals, and 47 extra points.

A run-blocking nightmare, Sow has helped running back Samson Evans (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge-Iowa) find the paydirt 13 times in 2021. That number is tied for the fourth-most in a single season by any EMU player. In the passing game, Sow and the offensive line have helped protect the EMU quarterbacks en route to an elite season with 3,419 yards passing and a 67.9 percent completion percentage.

Drummond started all 13 games at wide receiver, finishing with 64 catches for 704 yards and six scores.  The Cleveland, Ohio native hauled in seven balls for 105 yards versus Ball State and followed it up with a 73-yard receiving day against Ohio. Altogether, he has at least three catches in all but one game last year.

Sparacio joins the EMU football program as an incoming transfer after beginning his career at Boston College.  Last year, he played in 11 games with five stops in limited playing time. Out of high school, the Naples,  Fla. native was rated the No. 67 inside linebacker in the nation by 247Sports.
