Staying Home: Men's Hoops Lands Top Michigan Talent, Orlando Lovejoy

A Detroit native, Lovejoy averaged better than 25 points per game as a senior

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University basketball program continues to build its roster with Motor City talent, as Head Coach Stan Heath announced the signing of Orlando Lovejoy (Detroit, Mich.-Summit Academy North) today, May 4.

A 6-foot-2 shooting guard, Lovejoy was a four-time letterwinner and four-time team captain during his prep days with the Summit Academy North Dragons, as well as 1 of 1 Prep Academy in Charlotte, N.C.

One of the most sought-after recruits in the State of Michigan, Lovejoy put up unbelievable senior year stats that included 27 points per game, eight rebound per contest, and seven assist per game averages. In additional to his prolific scoring, Lovejoy is also the Summit Academy North all-time program record holder in numerous categories, including scoring, rebounding, steals, and assists. He was a multiple time all-district, all-region, and all-state honoree during his high school career.

Prior to his senior campaign, Lovejoy was selected by MLive as one of the "25 top Metro Detroit area boys basketball players to watch." Elswehere, the Detroit News mentioned him as one of the realistic contenders to be named Mr. Basketball in the State of Michigan ahead of his senior campaign. Lovejoy was also named a top 10 player in the state by Next Generation Sports.
