Student-athletes posted a 3.234 semester GPA and 3.334 cumulative GPA
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – It was another strong semester in the classroom for the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics. For the 25th consecutive semester, EMU student-athletes posted an average term Grade Point Average (GPA) above 3.0.
With more than 450 student-athletes, Eastern recorded a 3.234 winter semester GPA. EMU also added a cumulative 3.334 GPA.
"I'm incredibly proud of the academic performance of our student-athletes," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "This success is a reflection of highly committed and hard-working student-athletes and our department's dedication to academic excellence. I'm especially appreciative of our coaching staff who recruit strong students and create team cultures that value academic success, as well as our outstanding professors and student-athlete support services staff members who are on the front lines in providing a first-class education."
Overall, 70 percent (316) of EMU student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA-or-higher for the winter semester, and 13 sports had term GPAs of 3.0-or-higher.
Furthermore, there were 60 EMU student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs last semester, led by women's track & field which had 10.
For the semester, gymnastics led all sports with a term GPA of 3.664 on EMU's 4.0 scale. Lacrosse (3.656) was next, while tennis (3.578) was third. Soccer (3.565) and swimming & diving (3.561) rounded out the top-five programs for the winter semester.
Overall, a total of 342 student-athletes (76 percent) hold a cumulative GPA above 3.0, while 16 teams maintain a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
