Each week a number of Eagles will be honored for their success in competition
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week.
MALE NOMINEE
Name: Matt Kirk
Sport: Baseball

Week's Achievements (detailed description of week's events):
Junior Matt Kirk was outstanding yet again, this time in a four-game set against Western Michigan, April 1-3 at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti. The first-year Eagle helped lift EMU over the Broncos in two games, finishing with a team-best five hits during the weekend series. Two of his hits were home runs, which moved him into a tie for first on the team with eight this season. That number is tied for first in the league. Additionally, he added five RBIs, bringing his season total to 23, which leads Eastern Michigan and ranks third in the conference. Kirk was also the only player in the series to record double-digit total bases (12), while also finishing with a perfect fielding percentage. Furthermore, the Milford, Ohio native only went down on strikes one time during the series. He now ranks inside the MAC's top-10 in batting average for the season (.356).

EMU's 2V8 turned in a strong weekend against Big 10 Conference foe Michigan State University, April 2, and Atlantic 10 Conference member Duquesne University, April 3. In Saturday's home against the Spartans at Ford Lake, the boat was edged out of the win by 0:00.04. MSU clocked in at 7:29.56, while EMU turned in a time of 7:29.60. The next day, the 2V8 downed the Dukes with a time of 7:23.52, finishing more than eight seconds ahead of Duquesne.
