Football Alum Vincent Calhoun Inks Deal with Ottawa REDBLACKS

OTTAWA, Ontario (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University football defensive back Vincent Calhoun has signed with the Canadian Football League's Ottawa REDBLACKS, the team announced yesterday, April 19. Calhoun, a 2019 graduate of EMU, was one of two American defensive backs that the team added in order to bolster its secondary for the upcoming season.
A fixture in the Eastern Michigan defensive scheme during his four-year stint with the Eagles between 2016-19, Calhoun is the program's all-time leader with 49 games started. The Middletown, Ohio native is third all-time with 196 career solo tackles, and is ninth in the EMU record book with 347 total tackles.
In 2019, Calhoun became just the seventh student-athlete in program history to collect All-MAC honors in three different seasons as he earned First Team All-MAC accolades following his senior campaign. Calhoun started all 13 games as a defensive back, finishing with 108 total tackles (58 solo, 50 assisted), which ranked second on the team. Additionally, he recorded 6.0 tackles for loss (20 yards) and three forced fumbles. The four-year standout moved past 300 tackles in his career with a nine tackle performance against Western Michigan, Oct. 19, 2019, and finished the season ranked eighth in the MAC and 46th in the FBS with 8.3 tackles per game. Furthermore, he had four games with 10-or-more stops, including a 15 tackle contest in the three-point victory over Illinois, Sept. 14.
2022 CFL rookie camps open Wednesday, May 11. Training camp officially opens Sunday, May 15. Preseason games are set to begin in the final week of May, with training camps officially closing, June 4. The CFL's 2022 regular season officially begins Thursday, June 9. The REDBLACKS will kick off their season Friday, June 17.
