The REDBLACKS play in the Canadian Football League; Hickey set to join former teammate Vincent Calhoun
OTTAWA, Ontario (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University football offensive lineman Jeremy Hickey has signed with the Canadian Football League's Ottawa REDBLACKS, the team announced today, April 20. Hickey, a 2018 EMU graduate, is set to join fellow former Eagle, Vincent Calhoun, who was announced as a REDBLACKS signee yesterday, April 19.
A 2018 Academic All-MAC selection, Hickey started all 13 games for the Green and White during his senior campaign, earning a 3.20 GPA as a social studies and history major. Named a candidate for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the Wuerffel Trophy, the Bloomfield Hills, Mich. native was a huge part of EMU's offense that had the 32nd-best completion percentage in the nation.
Hickey played a pivotal role in the continued resurgence of the EMU football program as the 2018 squad, which he helped anchor, played in Camellia Bowl. It marked just the second postseason bowl appearance for the program since 1987, and also helped the program accomplish two bowl appearances in three years for the first time (2016 - Bahamas, 2018 - Camellia). Eastern's improvements have only heightened since, as the Green and White has made two additional postseason appearances (2019 - Quick Lane, 2021 - LendingTree).
Most recently, Hickey participated as a member of the Aviators, one of eight teams that make up The Spring League, a professional development that aims to help players achieve their professional playing goals.
2022 CFL rookie camps open Wednesday, May 11. Training camp officially opens Sunday, May 15. Preseason games are set to begin in the final week of May, with training camps officially closing, June 4. The CFL's 2022 regular season officially begins Thursday, June 9. The REDBLACKS will kick off their season Friday, June 17.
