The Eagles will be back April 22 for Senior Day doubleheader
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team lost at home, 4-3, to Northern Illinois University Friday, April 15. The Green and White are now 14-15 this spring, and drop to 2-6 in Mid-American Conference play.
"There is no excuse for losing this match," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "We have to be better, especially at home."
How it Happened
Redshirt senior Luisa Pelayo (Porto Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) pushed their winning streak to three-straight in doubles, topping NIU's No. 2 pair, 6-3. However, Eastern was unable to clinch the doubles point, entering singles action down 1-0.
Moving into singles redshirt senior Vasavi Ganesan (Chennai, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) put EMU on the board, winning 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4. Redshirt junior Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-l'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau), followed Ganesan by dominating her NIU opposition at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1. Pelayo also earned the victory in the one spot, 7-6 (4), 6-4. The Green and White were unable to pick up the final point they needed, and fell 4-3 to the Huskies.
