The Eagles look to even the score after falling to the Huskies, 4-3, in the first meeting

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team welcomes Northern Illinois University to Ypsilanti Friday, April 15. The Eagles and Huskies will play at 1 p.m. at the Chippewa Club.

Eastern (14-14, 2-4 MAC) looks to bounce back after a tough weekend of Mid-American Conference play, falling to NIU on the road, 4-3, April 8, followed by a home loss to Buffalo, 6-1, April 10. In those matches, the redshirt senior doubles pairing of Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) secured two wins, at two and three, respectively. The weekend performance marks the third time during the spring season that the pair have won consecutive matches. The redshirt seniors look to make it three-straight this weekend for the first time in the 2021-22 campaign.

Meanwhile, Northern Illinois (14-11, 1-6 MAC) earned its first MAC win against the Eagles, before falling to Western Michigan 7-0. Additionally, three of the Huskies' six singles matches extended to a third set, with NIU unable to secure a win.

The Eagles' postseason hopes remain alive. The Green and White need to win their three remaining matches against Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, and Ball State, while needing Buffalo to lose its final contests against Bowling Green, Toledo, and Miami.

Results will be made available following the matches. To stay up to date with Eastern Michigan tennis, go to EMUEagles.com or follow us on Twitter (@EMUEaglesTennis) and Instagram (@EMU_Tennis).
