The Eagles wrap up their weekend with matches against Bowling Green State and Lourdes, March 27
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team lost a tough 4-3 match to Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan University Friday, March 25. The Eagles move to 9-11 overall, and 0-2 in MAC contests, this spring season.
"This was about as close a match as you could have possibly played, and unfortunately we just didn't execute in some key spots to get the win," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "We had some great individual performances, but just weren't able to get the job done. We have to put this behind us quickly, and bounce back for Sunday's matches."
How It Happened
Eastern was unable to secure the doubles point, losing at No. 1 and No. 3, while the No. 2 doubles match went unfinished.
The Eagles turned it up in singles play as freshman Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-College of Commerce and Economics) was the first to put EMU on the board, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2. Redshirt sophomore Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-l'Adour, France-Dominique Saint Pau) was the next to strike, defeating her Bronco opponent 7-6 (4), 6-0, in the No. 6 spot. Redshirt senior Vasavi Ganesan (Chennai, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) pulled out a tough win at No. 5, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Eastern could not secure the final point to earn its first conference win of the season, falling 4-3 to WMU.
