The Eagles will play UCF, Charleston, and Oakland in Orlando, Fla., March 3-5
ORLANDO, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team travels to Orlando, Fla. to participate in three matches down south, March 3-5. The first two contests will be Thursday, March 3, against the University of Central Florida at noon, and versus the University of Charleston at 6 p.m. After a day of rest, the Eagles will challenge Oakland University Saturday, March 5, with the start time for that match yet to be determined.
Eastern (7-7), is coming off a weekend where it went 1-2, securing its sole win of the road trip at Bellarmine University, 4-1, Feb. 25. The Eagles could not get the job done at Butler University (Feb. 25), losing 4-1, or at Mercer University (Feb. 26), falling 7-0. Against the Bulldogs, freshman Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava) was the sole member of the Green and White to earn a point for the team, winning 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4. Additionally, the No. 3 doubles pairing of Brichackova and classmate Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-College of Commerce and Economics) secured a 3-0 record over the three matchups. The duo is now 11-2 this season in dual matches.
UCF (5-5) is coming off its biggest win of the season, defeating No. 17 Baylor University, 4-0, Feb. 27. With the win, the Knights earned their first victory over a ranked opponent this season, after falling to four different nationally-ranked squads prior (No. 25- Auburn, No. 7- Virginia, No. 21- Miami, No. 2 Oklahoma).
Playing in an exhibition match against Piedmont University, before taking on EMU in Orlando, March 3, the University of Charleston (4-4) will look to move above .500. The Golden Eagles most recently topped Mercyhurst University, 6-1, Feb. 25.
Searching for its first win of the spring season, Oakland (0-3) dropped a contest on the road to Stetson University, Feb. 26, 7-0. Before the trip to Florida, the Golden Grizzlies trekked to Muncie, Ind., and were bested by Mid-American Conference member Ball State University, 6-1, Feb. 12.
Results will be made available following the conclusion of the last match. For the most up-to-date information on all things EMU tennis, continue to visit EMUEagles.com, or follow us on Twitter, @EMUEaglesTennis.
