YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Featuring six home games for the 10th-time since the turn of the century, Eastern Michigan University's complete 2022 football schedule was released Friday, Feb. 25, by the Mid-American Conference. Overall, the schedule includes eight contests against bowl qualifiers from a year ago.

Of the six games inside "The Factory" at Rynearson Stadium, five will be played before the month of October concludes. Furthermore, Eastern will defend the gray turf for four-of-six games between Sept. 24 and Oct. 29.

On the flipside, the Eagles will play two of their last three contests on the road, as the schedule shifts to midweek and the phenomenon known worldwide as #MACtion. Overall, Eastern will play three games in a 26-day span with gaps of 10 (Oct. 29-Nov. 8), nine (Nov. 16-25), and eight (Nov. 8-16) days between tilts.

An updated version of the MAC's football schedule will be released in June with kick times and a television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during November. All other game times and television appearances will be announced 12-days prior to the scheduled kick.

Complete ticket information and game themes for the 2022 season will be announced at a later date.

EMU kicks off the year at home against Eastern Kentucky Friday, Sept. 2, before traveling to defending Sun Belt Conference Champion, Louisiana, Sept. 10. It marks the first meeting against EKU since 1971, when the teams combined for the rare 0-0 tie on Homecoming. Meanwhile, it marks a return to the bayou for Eastern to battle the Ragin' Cajuns, as the team's last met in Lafayette, La. during the 2006 campaign.

Eastern remains on the road with a trip to Tempe, Ariz. to take on Arizona State, Sept. 17. It will be just the second-time the men from Ypsilanti have traveled to the Valley of the Sun, previously hooking up with Arizona back in 1988.

Eastern Michigan opens its 47th MAC season at home against Buffalo Saturday, Sept. 24. It marks just the third-time the Eagles and Bulls have lifted the lid on the conference slate, the pair split the previous two occurrences in 2004 (EMU, 37-34) and 2018 (UB, 35-28).

The non-conference schedule concludes Saturday, Oct. 1, with a home date against Massachusetts. Previously a member of MAC, the Minutemen last traveled to Ypsilanti in 2015. Last season in Amherst, the Eagles racked up more than 500 yards of total offense en route to a 42-28 win.

The Battle for the Michigan MAC Trophy gets underway Saturday, Oct. 8, as Eastern treks west on I-94 to play Western Michigan. EMU has bested Western in the most recent trio of meetings, including a 22-21 come-from-behind victory last season to earn its seventh win of the year. The Green and White will attempt to make a run at history, as they have never defeated the Broncos in four consecutive seasons.

Northern Illinois invades Rynearson Stadium Saturday, Oct. 15, before the Eagles hit the road to Muncie, Ind. to battle Ball State Saturday, Oct. 22. The programs have claimed the last two MAC Championships, as Eastern looks to bring home its first league title since the 1987 campaign.

The slate of Saturday contests concludes Oct. 29 when Toledo crosses the border. Last season, Eastern Michigan fought back from a four-point halftime deficit to take down the Rockets, 52-49, in the Glass Bowl. It was the program's first win on the Rocket's home field since the 1999 season.

The schedule shifts to the bright lights of national television and midweek affairs for the final three games.

Ninth-year Head Coach Chris Creighton and his team square off against Akron Tuesday, Nov. 8, before another trip to northeast Ohio to tangle with defending MAC East Division Champion, Kent State, Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The regular season concludes on "Black Friday" versus Central Michigan, Nov. 25. Eastern and Central will meet on the gridiron for the 100th time in history between the two programs, with the Chippewas holding the series lead, 63-30-6. The EMU-CMU series is the longest-running rivalry between any two MAC schools.

The 26th Rocket Mortgage MAC Football Championship game will again take place in downtown Detroit on a date that is still to be determined. This will mark the 19th Rocket Mortgage MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.

EMU put together yet another impressive season in 2021, adding to the success that has come to define the last eight years. Eastern (7-6) clinched a winning record, the third under Creighton; Prior to Creighton's arrival, Eastern had not had a winning record since the 1989 season.

The Eagles also played in their fourth bowl game in the previous six seasons when they faced Liberty in the LendingTree Bowl, Dec. 18, in Mobile, Ala. Prior to 2016, Eastern had reached bowl eligibility just twice in its history and had earned the opportunity to play in a postseason bowl just once (1987 California Bowl).

The team returns to the gray turf for its first spring practice Monday, March 14. The session kicks off a string of 15 practice dates during a four-week period that culminates with the program's annual spring football game Friday, April 15.
