Sabina Brichackova moves to 11-1 in singles play this spring
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. & LOUISVILLE, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team fell 4-1 at Butler, before besting Bellarmine, 4-1, today, Feb. 25. The Eagles move to 7-6 in the spring season.
"We did not have the focus we needed to on our service games to do the little things required to win," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "This was a very disappointing result and not the way we wanted to start our spring break trip. We have to bounce back quickly and refocus if we hope to beat Bellarmine tonight."
Wiseman added later, "We did well to bounce back so quickly after the loss, and do what was needed to get the win at Bellarmine."
How It Happened
At Butler, Eastern saw a win in doubles from the No. 3 pairing of freshmen Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics), 6-1, but the Eagles were unable to clinch the doubles point. Brichackova also won her singles match in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-2.
EMU turned the day around at Bellarmine, quickly earning the doubles point from two 6-0 wins. Redshirt seniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) earned the win at No.2, while Brichackova and Vichare played in their usual No. 3 slot. In singles play, Vichare achieved a 6-0, 6-1 victory, while Brichakova was relentless in the four spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. The Cheb, Czech Republic native pushes her overall record to 11-1 in singles during the spring season. The Eagles ultimately defeated the Knights, 4-1.
