The outside linebacker was picked in the 29th round by the Michigan Panthers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University football player Terry Myrick (2017-21) was selected by the Michigan Panthers with the fifth overall pick in the 29th round of the United States Football League (USFL) Draft today, Feb. 23.

Myrick was the first outside linebacker selected by the Panthers in this year's draft.

The USFL is a professional American football league that is set to begin play in April. A once-popular spring football league by the same name operated between 1983-86 (officially dissolved in 1990). The revamped league features an eight-team field divided into a north and south division. The teams will play a 10-game schedule, followed by semifinals between the top two teams in each division to crown the division winners. Then, the championship will be played between those two winners.

Myrick was a fixture in the Eastern Michigan defensive scheme between 2017-21, playing in 54 games for the Green and White during his career. A 2021 preseason All-MAC selection by both Phil Steele and Athlon sports, Myrick finished second on the team in total tackles (85) in EMU's most recent season, while adding 3.0 TFLs, two quarterback hurries, and two pass break ups, and a sack.

Myrick collected Second Team All-MAC honors from both the conference and Phil Steele following a 2020 season in which he started all six games as a linebacker for the Green and White. He finished first on the team with 67 total tackles, including 24 solo stops and 43 assists, and also led the team with 5.5 tackles-for-loss and two fumble recoveries. His efforts helped him finish first in the MAC and ninth nationally in fumble recoveries, as well as fourth in the MAC and 11th nationally with an 11.2 tackles per game average.

His first three seasons with the Eagles saw Myrick rack up 108 tackles, including 8.5 for loss, in 35 games as one of the team's primary linebackers. His 89 tackles during the 2019 campaign were a career-high for the Austell, Ga. native.
