YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving program begins its postseason in Bowling Green, Ohio to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 23-26, inside Cooper Pool.
The conference championship will span four days. Fans can purchase tickets and follow the contest via ESPN+ and/or live stats.
The Eagles finished sixth in last season's conference championship with a team score of 305. Individually, senior diver Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este) taking home the MAC Championship in both the 1-meter (303.90) and 3-meter (329.70). Berger was the first Eagle to sweep the diving events since Danielle Hulvey did so at the 2013 MAC Championships. Additionally, Berger was the first 3-meter champion since the 2013 season.
LAST TIME OUT: EMU will return to the pool for the first time since its Super Senior Day Extravaganza, Feb. 5. The last time the Eagles were in competition came on Jan. 28 when the Green and White traveled to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami. Eastern dropped the dual meet, 137-161, however, EMU divers swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events, as senior Berger took first in the 1-meter (287.70) and freshman Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario-Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) finished first in the 3-meter (270.70).
Four other Eagles claimed a win, with sophomore Sav Mouat (Tecumseh, Ontario-All Saints) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:31.17), senior Ali Staver (Bettendorf, Iowa-Pleasant Valley) in the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Olivia Clarino (Toronto, Ontario-Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute) in the 100-yard butterfly (57.13), and senior Riley Hofmann (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.95).
ON THE HORIZON: Following the conference championship, three EMU divers have qualified for NCAA Zone C Championships, March 7-9, in Berger (1-meter and 3-meter), Hughes (1-meter and 3-meter), and sophomore Keira Veltigian (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) (1-meter). More divers will look to qualify for the championships following scores from the conference championship weekend.
