BBCSA Release
FORT WORTH, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University junior Gabe Denton (Clare, Mich.-Clare (North Iowa)) has been named to the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) Watch List, the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation announced today, Feb. 15. The BBCSA presented by SR Bats is an honor based on performance at the plate, academics, and personal integrity.
A utility man for the Green and White, Denton led the Eagles in home runs (10), RBIs (35), batting average (.318), slugging percentage (.606), and on base percentage (.412). Denton's 10 homers were good for second in the Mid-American Conference last season, along with his slugging percentage mark. The Clare, Mich. native also finished third in the conference with an OPS of 1.018. On defense, Denton finished with a .988 fielding percentage both behind the plate and in the field.
This year's watch list consists of 44 players representing 18 conferences around the country, including all "power five" conferences. The list includes 13 seniors, 17 juniors, and 14 sophomores.
The winner of the BBCSA will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall at the Fort Worth Club. Texas Tech's Hunter Hargrove won the initial BBCSA in 2017. Dallas Baptist's Devlin Granberg took home the honor in 2018 with Texas Tech's Josh Jung winning the award in 2019. Last year's winner was Connor Norby from East Carolina University.
Denton and the Eagles begin the 2022 season with a road trip to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on Winthrop, Feb. 18-20, in a three-game series.
