Football Leads Mid-American Conference with 23 Academic All-MAC Selections

EMU has led the MAC with 20+ honorees in consecutive seasons
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University football team placed 23 student-athletes on the 2022 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Football Team, the conference office announced today, Dec. 19. The 23 Eagles honored were the most of any team in the league. Eastern Michigan has paced the conference in academic honors in consecutive seasons.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
A total of 191 student-athletes from around the conference earned the distinction.
EMU finished with an 8-4 overall record, including a 5-3 record in MAC play during the 2022 regular season. The eight wins are the most for the program since the 1987 season. Additionally, with its 5-3 conference record, the team secured its first ever co-MAC West Division title. The Eagles also recaptured the Michigan MAC Trophy for the first time since 2012 following impressive defeats of both their in-state rivals, Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University.
EMU will play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 3:30 p.m. A rematch of the 1987 California Bowl will pit EMU against San Jose State University.
