YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University football program is excited to announce the return of a live "Signing Day Show" set for Wednesday, Dec. 21, as part of the Early Signing Period across the nation. The show will be hosted by Greg Steiner and Alex Jewell, and will highlight the nearly 20 newly-signed EMU football student-athletes. The special will air live on ESPN+ at noon, and will be available on demand following its airing.
In its sixth year, the Early Signing Period was approved by the NCAA in May 2017. The early signing period allows high school seniors a 72-hour window in December to sign a National Letter of Intent with the school of their choice. It comes about two months before National Signing Day, which is Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022.
This season's highly-anticipated class features nearly 20 high-school and collegiate standouts. Fans who tune into the signing day event will be able to hear about each player from Head Coach Chris Creighton, and Associate AD for Operations and Recruiting Jeff Collett.
Prospective student-athletes are officially allowed to begin signing their respective National Letters of Intent at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21. The official website of EMU Athletics, EMUEagles.com, and the team's social media accounts, will cover the all the signings in real time leading up to the start of the show.
The Eastern Michigan University football team will take on San Jose State University in the 26th Annual Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho. Kickoff for the game will be at 3:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. MT) on ESPN. The Eagles will face off against San Jose State for the second time in the postseason, as the matchup is a rematch of the 1987 California Bowl. The then-Hurons were a 17-point underdog, but EMU prevailed with a 30-27 win over the Spartans in Fresno, Calif., Dec. 12, 1987.
