Samson Evans Named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University senior running back Samson Evans (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge-Iowa) was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week today, Nov. 2. It marks consecutive wins for the Green and White, after fellow football player Jesús Gómez (Puebla, Mexico-Prepa Tec Pubela) collected the honor last week.
The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Evans was the backbone of the Eastern Michigan offense against Toledo, accounting for all three Eagle touchdowns. This was the second time this season where Evans found the end zone three times after another three-score day at Western Michigan, Oct. 8. With the nine total rushing touchdowns for the season, Evans leads the MAC, and ranks fourth with 722 rushing yards on the season. With 23 career touchdowns, Evans now ties Bob Foster (1986-88) for seventh most in program history and is one away from tying Shaq Vann (2015-19) for sixth on the charts.
Evans and the Eagles return to action Tuesday, Nov. 8, with a 7 p.m. kickoff at the University of Akron.
