YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Six Eastern Michigan University soccer student-athletes have been named 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, the group announced today, Nov. 15. Each of the Eagles' honorees are now eligible for CSC Academic All-America recognition.
The six Eagles that garnered all-district honors include senior Sarah Ash (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon), sophomore Sophia D'Ambra (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South), junior Tiffanie Hollingsworth (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon East), sophomore Meagan Lukowski (Bay City, Mich.-Bay City Western), sophomore Maddie O'Farrell (Haslett, Mich.-Lansing Catholic), and junior Rebecca Przybylo (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth). All six players earned their first academic award from CSC and are the first Eagles to garner all-district accolades since Alia Frederick was named CSC Academic All-District IV First Team in 2020.
CSC, formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), made changes to the national program this year with the minimum grade-point average rising from 3.00 to 3.50 and the elimination of all-district voting, meaning the maximum number of qualified players in women's soccer - six - automatically earn all-district accolades and are advanced to the national ballot for the prestigious CSC Academic All-America honor. The national honor will see voted athletes receive spots on first, second, and third-teams this year.
In her final season with the program, Ash started in all 18 of the Eagles' matches and logged a team-best 1,498 minutes on the pitch. She tallied a pair of goals for four points with her first goal of the season going down as the game-winner at Illinois State University, Sept. 21, as she headed home a corner kick from fellow senior Kylie Frantz (Erie, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy). That goal, which was scored at 43:39, stands as the 11th-latest first half goal scored in program history. She also scored the tying goal at 81:52 to rescue a 2-2 draw at Miami University, Oct. 27, in her collegiate finale.
D'Ambra had a breakout year as she netted the first two goals, first assist, and first points of her collegiate career. She opened her scoring account with the game-winner at the University of Akron, Sept. 29, in a 3-2 victory before adding her second goal against the University of Toledo, Oct. 13. Her five points ranked as the fifth-most on the team in 2022 as she was one of just six players to tally at least one goal and one assist in the campaign.
The speedy Hollingsworth appeared in 17 games and earned a place in the Starting XI in 16. She recorded one assist on the year, the first of her career, with a helper in the Illinois State game. For the season, she logged 1,307 minutes played, ranking third among defenders and seventh among all field players.
Lukowski had a breakout sophomore campaign as she entered the season with one career point on one assist before adding four goals and two assists for 10 points. One of just three Eagles to reach double digits in points, she tied for second on the team in points, second in goals, and fourth in assists. In her second game of the year, at Illinois State, Lukowski fired home two goals and added one helper for five points against the Redbirds for the eighth-best single-game point total in program history and the first two-goal performance since 2019. She added a goal in the 3-2 win at Akron and also scored the lone goal against Bowling Green State University.
O'Farrell, a member of the 2022 All-Mid-American Conference Second Team, led the team in points with 15, goals with six, and tied for second in assists with three to place the offense to a massive improvement over 2021. After opening the season with goals in back-to-back contests, including at home against Western Illinois University, Aug. 18, and at Illinois State, she tallied both goals in a 3-2 loss to Ohio University, Oct. 2, for her first multiple-goal game. She later added the game-tying goal in a come-from-behind, 2-1 victory at Western Michigan University, Oct. 16, and a then game-tying goal at Miami. Overall, O'Farrell ranked among the top 10 in goals and points in the MAC for the season.
Przybylo started all 16 games in which she appeared, recording a career-high 83 saves on the year and stopping 65.7-percent of the shots she faced. Her saves total, which ranked third in the MAC, brought her career total to 133, the eighth-best in program history. In the match at Western Michigan, Oct. 16, she recorded a career-high nine saves, the fourth-highest total on the year for any keeper in the conference, to help the Eagles come-from-behind for a 2-1 road win. Overall, she recorded at least five saves in 12 of the 16 matches she played, including eight in the finale, a 2-2 draw at Miami.
The CSC Academic All-America honors will be announced Dec. 6, at noon.
