YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
Eastern Michigan University Athletics has continued its standards for academic excellence, tying its highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in program history in the latest report released by the NCAA Tuesday, Nov. 15.

EMU posted an overall GSR of 87, the mark tied the department's previous best set during the 2019-20 campaign. Overall, it is the eighth straight year EMU has posted a GSR of 80-or-higher. The total is a 15-point jump from numbers released in 2010-11.

"Academic success at Eastern Michigan is of the highest priority, and is a source of pride for our department," said EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "Our student-athletes are committed to succeeding both in their sport and in the classroom. We are thankful for the support from the faculty, academic support staff, and our coaches, who are committed to guiding them to reach their academic goals."

The Graduation Success Rate measures graduation rates for student-athletes by team. The GSR considers student-athletes who are on scholarship their first year and who graduate from their respective universities or leave their programs, via transfer to other universities or for professional opportunities, while in good academic standing.

Men's golf, women's golf, women's gymnastics, women's soccer, women's tennis and women's volleyball all posted perfect scores of 100. It was the 15th consecutive year gymnastics posted a perfect score. It was also the 12th-straight 100 for volleyball and the sixth in-a-row for women's golf.

Eight Eastern Michigan programs posted a mark above the national average for its sport. Furthermore, every program posted a GSR of 75-or-better.

The Graduation Success Rate includes data about the most recent six-year graduating class of student-athletes receiving athletics aid and entering college as freshmen in 2015-16.  The GSR is designed to show the proportion of student-athletes graduating within in a six-year window,  accounting for transferring student-athletes coming into the institution and student-athletes leaving the institution in good standing.

The NCAA developed the Division I Graduation Success Rate in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflect the mobility among all college students today.

The federal graduation rate, while less inclusive than the GSR, provides the only measure of historic academic comparison between student-athletes and the general student body. Using this standard, EMU student-athletes outperformed their peers in the student body by 23 percent.

Graduation Success Rates for Eastern Michigan's women's programs continue to excel. All nine programs posted GSRs of 87 percent-or-better, with six boasting scores above 90 percent.

On the men's side, golf topped the chart at 100 percent with baseball and cross country/track also posting GSR figures of 87-or-better percent.

Among Mid-American Conference schools, Eastern Michigan was tied for first in six sport categories -- men's golf, women's golf, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.
