The sophomore punter leads the MAC in yards per punt in 2022
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University sophomore punter Mitchell Tomasek (Columbus, Ohio-Worthington Kilbourne) collected Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week honors, the league announced today, Oct. 31. It marks the third time in his career he has garnered the accolade, all of which have come during the current campaign.
Tomasek had another strong outing for Eastern Michigan against the University of Toledo, Oct. 29. With five punts on the afternoon, the Columbus, Ohio native tallied a total of 205 yards, averaging a total of 41 yards per punt and upping his season total to 45.4 yards per punt. The season average number is first in the MAC by 1.7 yards. Tomasek is trying to keep the trend of an Eastern Michigan player leading the MAC in yards per punt, since Jake Julien (2017-21) led the league in this category from 2019-21. The sophomore has a total of 1,452 yards on total punts this season.
Eastern Michigan is in the midst of a nine-day break before it returns to the field Tuesday, Nov. 8 for a game at the University of Akron. Full details regarding kickoff time and television airing will be announced in the coming days.
