Eagles host first fall race since 2009 this Saturday
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University rowing team will host the Ford Lake Shore Race this Saturday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. The competition will conclude EMU's official fall racing schedule.
The race, which will feature Eastern Michigan against the Adrian College Bulldogs, is the program's first fall event at home in 13 years since the Green and White hosted the University of Michigan Nov. 15, 2009.
Last weekend, Oct. 22, EMU raced in the Women's Club Eight division at the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston, Mass. The Eagles finished 17th out of 40 boats with a time of 17:16.227. Conference opponent Drexel University took first place with a time of 16:27.976.
Although the Green and White dropped one spot from its 16th place finish last year at the same regatta, Eastern Michigan topped its previous time of 17:27.616 by more than 10 seconds.
The Eagles' lineup at last week's regatta included graduate students Chloe Hinojosa (Kewanee, Ill.-Kewanee) and Lauren Ahern (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Walled Lake Western), juniors Abby Goodwin (Whitehouse, Ohio-Anthony Wayne), Laura Borchers (Troy, Ohio-Troy), Reagan Fazekas (Hillsdale, Mich.-Hanover-Horton) and Abbey Simpson (Wyandotte, Mich.-Roosevelt), along with sophomores Lily Wilhelm (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville-Butler), Olivia Hansen (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Ann Arbor Skyline) and freshman Quinn Yesford (Beamsville, Ontario.-Blessed Trinity Catholic).
The Ford Lake Shore Race is the final event of the fall season for the Eagles. The Green and White's next competition won't be until Friday, March 24, when Eastern Michigan takes on the University of Alabama on the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
