Tomasek Named "Ray's 8" Selection for Week Six Effort

The sophomore punter leads the MAC in yards per punt in 2022
AUGUSTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University sophomore punter Mitchell Tomasek (Columbus, Ohio-Worthington Kilbourne) was named a "Ray's 8," selection, given to the best eight punters in college football on a weekly basis, by the Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award today, Oct. 10.
One of the eight recipients will be named the Ray Guy Award national punter of the week tomorrow, Oct. 11.
Tomasek had a stellar week in EMU's 45-23 triumph over in-state and Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan University, Oct. 8. He booted four balls for 192 yards, a season-best average of 48.0 yards per attempt (any game with multiple kicks). His effort included a long punt of 54 yards, his fourth-best individual effort of the campaign.
A two-time Mid-American Conference Player of the Week recipient in 2022, Tomasek sits atop the league with a 46.2 yards per punt average this season. As a unit, Eastern Michigan is fourth overall in the MAC in net punting.

The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thompson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponent's 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
