EMU will now play Western Michigan Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) —  The Mid-American Conference office announced tonight, Jan. 16, that the women's basketball contest between Eastern Michigan University and Western Michigan University, originally scheduled for March. 2 in Kalamazoo, will now be played Wednesday, Jan. 19, inside Ypsilanti's George Gervin GameAbove Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

EMU will travel to Western for the March. 2 date.

The two teams were originally scheduled to play Jan. 19 in Kalamazoo before health and safety protocols forced the conference to move the date of the game to Monday, Feb. 28. Both teams now meet the league-mandated playing threshold, however, so the originally-scheduled dates (Jan. 19/March 2) will now be utilized one again, with change of venue being the only change from the original schedule.

Last month the MAC announced that it has modified its 2021-22 rescheduling policy. The decision was unanimously supported by the Conference's Directors of Athletics. For men's and women's basketball, a team must meet a minimum threshold of seven scholarship student-athletes and one coach to play a game. If a team does not have the necessary number of participants, and elects not to play, the game shall be a no contest if it cannot be rescheduled.

The MAC Medical Advisory Group will continue to monitor and discuss the current circumstances and, if necessary, may adjust the current protocols. All contests will remain subject to national, state and local health guidelines.
