Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Affair to Oakland

Raeven Chase led the Eagles' attack with nine kills
ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team could not overcome a dynamic Golden Grizzlies' offense Sunday, Sept. 5, falling on the road to Oakland University in three sets (20-25, 21-25, 15-25) in the Golden Grizzlies Invitational finale.
The non-conference loss moved Eastern Michigan to 2-3 on the season, while OU improved to 2-3 overall.
Redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic) finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Eagles' attack and finished with a hitting percentage of .333 (9-3-18). EMU got 17 digs from sophomore Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) to pace them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-20. Oakland grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that was tied up four times before the Golden Grizzlies took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan dropped set two 25-21, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. The Eagles fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Eagles lost the first point and never took the lead before losing the set 25-15.

» Freshman Madeline Timmerman (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Central) tied a career high in aces with three.
» Eastern Michigan attackers were helped by a match-high 26 assists from sophomore Jayden Otto (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge).
» Chase and freshman Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio-Mason) earned All-Tournament Team honors.
Historical Notes
» Sunday's match was the 31st meeting in program history between the Eagles and Golden Grizzlies.
» Even with the loss, Eastern Michigan still holds the all-time series record, 25-6 (.806%).
