EMU continues its first week of MAC play against Miami, Sept. 26, at Scicluna Field

MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - In the Eastern Michigan University's soccer team's Mid-American Conference opener, the Eagles finished tied with Ball State University, 0-0, on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 23, inside the Briner Sports Complex.

The Cardinals out-shot Eastern 14-4, earning six shots on goal to EMU's two.

Senior keeper Chelsea Abbotts (Ottawa, Ontario-Mother Teresa) earned six saves on the afternoon. Abbotts surpassed the mark of 100 career saves on Thursday as she now has 104 in her Eastern Michigan career. Abbotts and the Green and White defense also tallied the Eagles' first shutout of the season.

Sophomore Tiffanie Hollingsworth (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon East) led Eastern's attack with two shots while sophomore Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic) and freshman Sam Lenaghan (Toronto, Ontario-Havegral College) each recorded a shot on target.

"We went up against the same Ball State team we have played for the past four years," Head Coach Scott Hall said. "Ball State has tons of experience and talent as they started 10 out of 11 seniors. Our squad played well and we earned our first clean sheet of the season. The commitment to the game plan and willingness to work for 110 minutes will be what makes this team dangerous in the conference. We have improved each game and will commit to bringing our best to Miami, dedicating it to our hall of fame player Amanda Kulikowski."

» Eastern Michigan tallied the program's first clean sheet of the 2021 season.
