Volleyball Drops Two to Open Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball program dropped two non-conference matches to open the Michigan Challenge today, Sept. 17, inside Cliff Keen Arena. The Eagles first met the University of Michigan, falling in three sets (11-25, 20-25, 23-25), before losing to the University of Dayton in straight sets (17-25, 12-25, 23-25).
The two non-conference losses dropped the Green and White to 4-6 on the season.
Match One: at Michigan

» Sophomore Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic) posted a team-high eight kills and two aces in the loss.
» Eastern Michigan saw a match-high 12 digs from sophomore Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan).
» Eastern Michigan attackers were helped by a match-high 25 assists from sophomore Jayden Otto (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge).
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-11. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as 14 points as Michigan never gave up the lead in the set.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan then dropped set two 25-20 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Eagles fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before ultimately dropping the set.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan could not win the third set and was swept by Michigan, falling 25-16. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as 10 points as Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up just once before the Wolverines took over the lead.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-17. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as nine points as Dayton grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up twice before the Flyers took control.
SET 2 | A 25-12 second-set loss put Eastern Michigan behind two sets to none in the match. The Eagles dropped the first point and never took the lead before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan could not win set three and was swept by Dayton. The Eagles came up short in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-23 in a set that featured four lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
