 YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week.

MALE NOMINEE
Name: Jake Julien
Sport: Football

Week's Achievements (detailed description of week's events):
Senior punter Jake Julien, a nominee for the 2021 Ray Guy Award, got off to an excellent start to the 2021 season in EMU's 35-15, season-opening win over Saint Francis, Sept. 3. The Barrie, Ontario native booted four balls for a total of 184 yards. His 46.0 yards per punt average in the game was well above his 43.4 career average, which is already atop the EMU record books (tied with Rich Hanschu).
       Julien followed his hot start with an even better game against Wisconsin, Sept. 11. Racking up eight punts for the third time in his career, Julien punted for 411 total yards, good for an average of 51.4 yards per kick.
       Julien's 49.6 yards per punt in 2021 ranks seventh in the nation and first in the MAC.

Week's Achievements (detailed description of week's events):
Eastern Michigan posted a 2-1 record at the UIC Invitational last weekend with redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase leading both the Eagle offense and defense. Offensively, the middle blocker tallied 31 total kills for a 3.10 kills-per-set average over the three matches. Chase also boasted a team-high .482 hitting percentage (31-4-56) and averaged 3.90 points per set. Defensively, the redshirt sophomore recorded a team-high 11 blocks (5-6) for a 1.10 blocks-per-set average over the three matches. The redshirt sophomore opened the tournament with a team-best 10 kills with a .421 hitting percentage (10-2-19) and three blocks (2-1) in a three-set loss to Chicago State, Sept. 10. Then, Chase posted another 10-kill performance in a 3-1 win over the host UIC, Sept. 10. Additionally, the middle blocker boasted a .348% clip (10-2-23) and added four blocks (2-2). Chase finished the weekend strong with 11 kills, four blocks (1-3), two digs, and a season high in hitting percentage at .786 (11-0-14). The redshirt sophomore leads the Mid-American Conference averaging 1.07 blocks per set and ranks third on the team averaging 2.57 kills per set (72 total).
