YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – While many around Southeast Michigan were enjoying a sun-filled Saturday morning, Aug. 7, the Eastern Michigan University football team was back to work inside Rynearson Stadium for its third practice of its 2021 training camp slate.
Today's outing featured a "shells," dress code, which included helmets, shoulder pads, and shorts. Full pads will make their debut in just a few short days after the squad completes its NCAA-mandated five-day acclamation period.
Today's workout followed a very similar format to that of the previous two opportunities. Following a full-team stretch, respective special teams units took time to hone in on their skills. Ray Guy award nominee Jake Julien (Barrie, Ontario-North Collegiate) and record-holding place kicker Chad Ryland (Lebanon, Pa.-Cedar Crest) both got plenty of reps in the early going.
Following a set of periods, five-minute sections of practice, that saw individual position groups run through spot-specific drills and activities, the team once again convened for team-based offensive and defensive drills. The practice finished with a scrimmage-like bout between the scoring unit and the "Hard Hat D," although no player was allowed to make significant contact with one another or force any other player onto the ground.
After an evening walk-through session tonight, a portion of camp in-place for just the fifth year after the elimination of two-a-days following the 2016 season, the players will enjoy a much-deserved off day tomorrow, Aug. 8, before resuming practice Monday, Aug. 9.

With the season fast approaching, the EMU Ticket Office has announced the sale of 2021 ticket packages and single-game ticket options. EMU's schedule features six home games. Visit the official ticketing page at EMUEagles.com for more information.
The Sept. 3 contest has been designated as CommUniversitE Night. An event designed to spotlight the unique relationship between the local community and the University. This is a special event where we are inviting the entire community to come out and support the football team. Pregame festivities will feature food, music, kid-friendly activities, and more. Throughout the game, Eastern Athletics will be recognizing frontline workers and celebrating our return to Rynearson Stadium.
