YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball program and first-year Head Coach Stan Heath signed transfer Nate Scott (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley (Northern Illinois)) to the 2021-22 roster, the team announced today, Aug. 25.
Scott will join the Eagles after spending the last two seasons at fellow Mid-American Conference member Northern Illinois University. The forward will be considered a graduate student in the classroom, but a senior athletically for the 2021-22 campaign.
"Nate will add MAC experience to our team right away after playing two seasons at NIU," said Heath. "He's a 6-foot-8 combo forward with good shooting skills and a high basketball IQ. We expect Nate to be a big contributor this season."
Scott appeared in 14 games, making 10 starts for the Huskies last season. He averaged 5.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per game. The 6-foot-8 forward posted a 38.4 clip (28-of-73) from the field and scored in double figures twice. Scott netted a season-high 13 points at Central Michigan, March 5, and grabbed nine rebounds at Kent State, Feb. 13.
During the 2019-20 season at NIU, Scott saw action in 27 games with four starts. He tallied 3.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11.0 minutes per game. The senior boasted a 70.6 percentage (12-of-17) from the free throw line and scored a career-high 18 points against Coppin State, Nov. 15.
Prior to arriving in DeKalb, Ill., Scott played two seasons at Olney Central College in Olney, Ill. An All-Region 24 and All-Great Rivers Athletic Conference performer as a sophomore, Scott averaged 10.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while starting all 31 games. He shot 55.7 percent from the field, including 38.2 percent from three-point range, and 76.9 percent from the free-throw line, while helping the Blue Knights to a 25-6 overall record.
Scott prepped at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Ill. under Head Coach Todd Sutton. The senior was a two-year letterwinner and was voted as a captain during his senior season. He averaged 9.0 points and 3.0 rebounds for the Wildcats.
Additionally, Scott is the son of former EMU men's basketball student-athlete Lewis Scott. He was a four-year letterwinner (1983-87) for the Green and White. Scott ranks 30th in program history with 1,014 career points.
Eastern Michigan continues its offseason schedule and prepares for the 2021-22 season with Coach Heath at the helm of the program.
