Busy Summer Golf Circuit Underway

Members of both the EMU men's and women's golf team are already back on the links
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Just a few weeks removed from the Mid-American Conference Championships and already the circuit of summer golf tournaments is underway for members of the Eastern Michigan University men's and women's golf teams.
Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) won his Ohio Amateur Qualifier at Elyria Country Club, June 1 , with a four-under 68. The Ohio Amateur Championship will be held July 26-30 at Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio.
Back in the state of Michigan, Luke Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) finished fifth at the Michigan Publinx Medal Play Championship with a two-under 214 (69-73-72). Meanwhile, Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego) qualified for both the Michigan Open, June 14-17, and the 110th Michigan Amateur, June 22-26.
The Michigan Amateur at Cascade Hills Country Club in Grand Rapids begins with two rounds of stroke play, over a two-day period. At the completion of stroke play, the field is cut to the low 64 for the first round of match play. Match play continues for three days and six rounds until a champion emerges on the final afternoon of the tournament.
On the women's side, Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) finished 12th at the 23rd GAM Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, June 1-2, with a 163 (81-82). Furthermore, Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) and Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) played in the qualifying event for the LPGA's Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, July 14-17.
