Eighteen members of the EMU baseball program are playing on 11 teams

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles) – The collegiate regular season may be over for the Eastern Michigan University baseball team, but a large portion of the team's roster is staying busy by participating in summer leagues across the country.

A total of eighteen players are currently playing on 11 different teams across nine different leagues.

Taylor Hopkins (Mason, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller), Tyler Helgeson (Portage, Mich.-Portage Northern), and Mark Kattula (Sterling Heights, Mich.-Stevenson) are teammates for the Alexandria Aces of the Cal Ripken League, while Will Oberg (Wayzata, Minn.-Wayzata (Heartland)) is back in his home state as a member of the Northwoods League's Minnesota Mud Puppies.

Evan Sines (Lancaster, Ohio-Lancaster) is hitting the diamond for the Normal Cornbelters of the Prospect League, while Anthony Sharkas (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) and Cory Taylor (Shelbyville, Ind.-Shelbyville) are both in the Mitten State, playing for the Michigan Monarachs of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. Ryan Lux (Shelby Twp., Mich.-Stevenson) and Daniel Warkentin (Leamington, Ontario-Leamington District (Parkland)) join that duo in the GLSCL, as members of the Jet Box. Trevor House (Okeana, Ohio-Ross) rounds out the Eagles in the Great Lakes League as member of the Hamilton Joes.

On the east coast, pitcher Justin Meis (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Bethel Park) is playing in the historic Cape Cod League as members of the Cotuit Kettleers. He was named the team's Opening Day starter and took the bump yesterday, June 20. He gave up just two runs in three innings of work and tossed a pair of 1-2-3 frames.

Meanwhile, two Eagles are playing with the Michigan Collegiate Baseball League's US 23's, Shane Easter (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Comstock), and Alex Forry (Livonia, Mich.-Franklin).

Elsewhere, Luke Russo (Howell, Mich.-Howell), Cameron Wagoner (Tecumseh, Mich.-Tecumseh), and Zach Fruit (Dundee, Mich.-Dundee (Lansing)) are members of the Greenville Flyboys in the Appalachian League, while Nick Chittum (Grosse Ile, Mich.-Gross Ile) is suiting up for the Waynesboro Generals of the Valley League. Wagoner has already been named the Appalachian League Player of the Week once this summer.

Davis Feldman (Warren, Mich.-Brother Rice) rounds out Eastern's summer-ball lineup as a member of the MLB Draft League's Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

The Eastern Michigan baseball program will continue to provide updates on its summer ball players throughout the upcoming months, but fans are encouraged to visit and follow each individual team's website for the most up-to-date statistics and updates.
