EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University track & field program concluded its memorable season in the women's high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships today, June 12. Representing the Eagles inside Hayward Field was three-time Mid-American Conference champion senior Quintella Johnson (Las Vegas, Nev.-Saint Mary's (Texas Southern)) who proved why she belonged in Eugene, Ore.

"I know that Quintella wanted more but this was a good showing for her first trip to NCAA's," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "She's had a great year and it's been exciting to see her take her jumping to a new level. This experience will help her for the future."

The Nevada native did not clear 1.73m on her first attempt but bounced back in a big way. After clearing the mark on her second try, she went on to smoothly ace 1.78m on her first attempt at the height. Prior to the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, May 28, Johnson's personal-best at Eastern Michigan had been 1.78m. At 1.81m, the senior had three solid tries but ultimately could not overcome the height.

Johnson finished tied for 16th overall in the competition, earning her Second Team All-American honors as she became the second member of the women's team to do so in the event in EMU program history. Former Eagle Katie Wolanin was the first to record the feat, flying at 1.77m to tie-for 12th overall in the national meet, June 14th, 2014.

Following the conclusion of the NCAA Outdoor Championships tonight, the outdoor track & field season will have officially ended. However, a plethora of Eagles will remain busy this summer training and competing at various meets at home and abroad before returning to campus in the fall. Additionally, other members of the Eagle family are set to partake in the U.S. Paralympic Trials and U.S. Olympic Trials. The Paralympic trials take place in Minneapolis, Minn. between Thursday, June 17 and Sunday, June 20th. Moreover, the Olympic trials will be held in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field. Track & field athletes will have their shot at making the Olympic Team at the 10-day trials starting on Friday, June 18, and lasting until Sunday, June 27.
