Golson Jr. comes to Ypsilanti after a season with Siena College
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball program and Head Coach Stan Heath added Siena College transfer Colin Golson Jr. (Detroit, Mich.-Ferndale (Siena)), the team announced today, May 25.
Golson Jr. joins the Eagles after playing the 2020-21 season with the Saints and will be considered a sophomore academically, but a freshman on the court.
"Colin Golson, he's a 6-foot-7 forward and gives us some size, versatility, and strength at the forward position," said Heath. "He's a guy that can drive the ball from the perimeter and he can post up. He's good at getting fouls and has been a very consistent three-point shooter. He will be a great addition to our team.
The Detroit, Mich. native played a vital role for the Saints during the 2020-21 season, as he appeared in 13 games including four starts. Golson Jr. averaged 5.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, while playing 19.1 minutes a contest. He posted a 50.0 field goal percentage (27-of-54), which included a 37.5 clip from beyond the arc (9-of-24). The forward notched a career-high 14 points at Rider, Jan. 16, and grabbed a personal-best six rebounds against Saint Peter's (Jan. 23).
Golson Jr. graduated from Ferndale High School playing under Head Coach Juan Rickman where he averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-7 forward earned Division 2 First Team All-State honors and was a Detroit Free Press All-Area Third Team selection during his senior season. The freshman also played AAU basketball for REACH Legends
Eastern Michigan continues its offseason schedule and prepares for the 2021-22 season with Coach Heath at the helm of the program.
