Boxscore
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team lost to Bowling Green State, 0-7, Friday, April 9, at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti.
"We had some chances early but weren't able to capitalize on them," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "BGSU really carried the momentum from doubles into singles and were just better than us today."
The scores were close in double play as redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) and Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) earned a win at No. 1, 6-4. With the victory, the duo extends their win streak in doubles to four straight. Redshirt juniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) fought hard at No. 2 but lost 4-6. Classmate Morgan Ingram (Charlotte, N.C.-Grace Academy (Marion Military Institute)) continues to see action, pairing with redshirt sophomore Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin (Salem)) at No. 3. The couple battled but fell to their Falcon opposition, 3-6.
The Green and White were unable to secure a point in singles play, but saw close contests at No. 1 and No. 2. Popma went back and forth with her opponent, ultimately falling 3-6, 4-6. Pelayo, in the only match of the day that went to three sets, dueled her Falcon challenger to the last point but could not come away with the win, losing 7-6, 4-6, 0-1.
The Eagles travel to the University of Toledo on Sunday, April 11, with the match scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. To keep up with everything Eastern Michigan tennis, continue to visit EMUEagles.com or follow us on Twitter (@EMU_Tennis), or Instagram (@EMUEaglesTennis).
