YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — It felt like summer but looked like fall as the Eastern Michigan University football team was back on the inside "The Factory" at Rynearson Stadium for its 10th practice of the 2021 spring session today, April 7.

The warmest day of the spring season thus far, Eastern players and staff enjoyed temperatures that hit above 80 degrees, a rarity for April in the Mitten State. As expected, the fantastic EMU Sports Medicine team, led by Head Football Athletic Trainer Steven Berning, was well prepared to handle the extra hydration needs of the student-athletes in the heat.

"It is not often that we see such high temperatures in April," said Berning. "Our staff and student-athletes did a fantastic job of maintaining proper hydration and adherence to safety standards. It is always fun to see the energy that such good weather brings to practice, and I am proud of everyone who continues to do their part to make this spring a success."

The team is in the midst of 15 practices over a five-week period that each institution at the NCAA Division I level is granted. Practices are being conducted approximately three days per week, with off-field activities such as weight lighting occurring on alternate days.

The team, adhering closely to a variety of safety rules and standards that were enacted during the 2020 regular season, ran through drills and team exercises on the gray turf. A minimal-contact day, the team donned shorts, shoulder pads, and helmets as they went through a vast array of drills on the field.

Creighton, who is now in his eighth year at the helm, guided the team through the workout as they prepare for the upcoming 2021 season.

On the field, coaches focused largely on individual skill development. This is a common trend in "spring ball," as it is the final weeks of full-team, on-field activity before August's fall camp.

The term "Be Different" was vocalized on numerous occasions. The newest mantra for the squad encourages players to go above and beyond in order to better themselves and the team. Instead of just going through the motions, players will be expected to "Be Different."
