YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team dropped a home affair, 4-3, to Miami University on Sunday, April 25.
"Today was another tough and close loss," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "It was again a better effort and result than the first time we played, but was also not enough to get the job done. We have found just about every possible way to lose 3-4, so at least we aren't making exactly the same mistakes over and over again. Once we find a way to put it all together, we can be very dangerous."
Eastern Michigan came out with energy, leading two of three doubles matches early. Redshirt freshman Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-L'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) and redshirt sophomore Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin (Salem)) were unable to hold the momentum, however, falling 3-6 at No. 3. Redshirt juniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) lost 2-6 at No. 2. Furthermore, the No. 1 pairing of redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) and redshirt freshman Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) ended unfinished as Miami won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.
In singles, Whitney evened the scoreboard for the Eagles, winning by default at No. 6 and tying the match 1-1. Pelayo successfully clinched a point for the Green and White, winning 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3. Additionally, Piatek battled through three sets to best her opponent, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0, at No. 5. EMU's comeback feel short, as they lost, 3-4, to the RedHawks.
Eastern will travel to Bowling Green State University on Friday, April 30, at 1 p.m. before returning to Ypsilanti for the final home match of the season against the University at Buffalo. The final home matchup will serve as Senior Day and is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. To stay up to date with Eastern Michigan tennis, go to EMUEagles.com or follow us on Twitter (@EMUEaglesTennis) and Instagram (@EMU_Tennis).
