The Eagles travel to Rochester, Mich. for third match in two weeks versus OU

ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team is prepared for its third match versus Oakland University in two weeks Saturday, March 6. The competition will take place at 4:30 p.m. at Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness.

Eastern (5-4; 0-0 MAC) recently swept Oakland (0-5; 0-0 Horizon), Feb. 26, in doubleheader action, 6-1, 6-1. In those contests, the Eagles saw the doubles pairing of redshirt juniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio Cebes (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich-Imlay City (Wright State)) earn two wins, with the first coming at No. 1, and the second at No. 2. Pelyao had a four-win day as she won both of her singles matches in straight sets to go along with her doubles wins. The Golden Grizzlies lost to Western Michigan (0-7), Feb. 28, while the Green and White saw their doubleheader with Butler postponed that day.

EMU has mixed up its doubles pairs slightly, putting redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) and redshirt freshman Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-I'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) together. The duo are 2-0, with a win at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots against the Golden Grizzlies. Pelayo is proving to be a force in singles play, holding an overall record of 8-1, she is the first Mid-American Conference player to secure eight singles wins in 2021. Pommiers is close behind her teammate with a 6-2 overall record on the season.

After its match at Oakland, Eastern Michigan turns its focus to Mid-American Conference action as they kick off conference play against Ball State Friday, March 12. The match will be played in Ypsilanti at the Chippewa Club at 1 p.m.
