Volleyball's Chase Earns MAC West Player of the Week

The redshirt sophomore was named Defensive Player of the Week
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University redshirt sophomore volleyball player Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today, March 29. The honor is Chase's second of her career.
Chase, a middle blocker, notched 24 total blocks (1-23) in 12 sets last week. The third-year Eagle opened the week with eight blocks (2-6) and six kills in EMU's 3-1 loss to Central Michigan, March 23. In the series opener against Ball State, March 26, the Toronto, Ontario native recorded seven kills with one block. Chase turned up the heat with her first career double-double in the series finale against the Cardinals, March 27, as she tallied 15 blocks and 11 kills. Her 15 blocks set a EMU five-set record in the modern statistical era (since 2008). The previous record holder was Sam Falco, who tallied 11 blocks (0-11) at Northern Illinois, Sept. 29, 2017.
Chase finished the 2021 spring season as the MAC's leader with a 1.45 blocks-per-set average, which is good for 17th in the NCAA. Additionally, her 100 total blocks on the season also led the conference and ranks seventh among Division I volleyball student-athletes.
Eastern Michigan concluded the 2021 spring season with a 8-12 conference record. EMU will take a short break before it start preparation for next year's fall season.
