Pelayo and Whitney win sixth-straight doubles match

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team lost at home to Western Michigan University, Friday, March 19, 1-6. The Green and White are now 6-7 overall in 2021 and 0-3 in Mid-American Conference play.
"Today was another tough day," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "I felt like we competed well at every position but just didn't do quite enough to get over the top. Hopefully we can use what we did today to improve going forward."
Redshirt juniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio Cebes (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) continue their dominance, earning the win and moving to 8-1 at No. 2, 9-4 overall in doubles play. The win extends the duo's streak to six matches. The Eagles were unable to secure the doubles point, as Western Michigan earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3, with both matches' final score at being 6-2.
It was redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) who scored EMU's sole point of the matchup. Ganesan won 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 and moved to 7-4 overall in the season. Redshirt freshman Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-I'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) and Whitney lost hard fought matches. Pommiers fell 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 4, while Whitney lost 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 at No. 5.
Eastern will welcome the University of Toledo to the Chippewa Club Friday, March 26, before traveling to the University at Buffalo Sunday, March 28. The two matches will start at 1 p.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.
