YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — If the mid-50's weather and bright sun wasn't enough to get you excited today, March 17, than the thought of football should surely help. At Eastern Michigan University, it was not just a thought, as Head Coach Chris Creighton's Eagles were back inside "The Factory" at Rynearson Stadium for their first practice of the 2021 spring session.

Over the course of the next five weeks, the team will conduct 14 additional full-team practices, an allowance that each program at the NCAA Divison I level is granted. Practices will be conducted approximately three days per week, with off-field activities such as weight lighting occurring on alternate days.

The team, adhering closely to a variety of safety rules and standards that were enacted during the 2020 regular season, ran through drills and team exercises on the gray turf.

Creighton, who is now in his eighth year at the helm, guided the team through the workout as they prepare for the upcoming 2021 season.

Similar to the beginning of fall training camp, today's practice was the first part of an acclimation period where the players can only wear helmets, before sporting shoulder pads and eventually, full gear.

On the field, Creighton and his fellow coaches, a group that includes new hires Sean Coughlin (offensive line) and RJ Fleming (wide receivers) focused largely on individual skill development. This is a common trend in "spring ball," as it is the final weeks of full-team, on-field activity before August's fall camp.

The term "Be Different," was vocalized on numerous occasions. The newest mantra for the squad encourages players to go above-and-beyond, in order to better themselves and the team. Instead of just going through the motions, players will be expected to "Be Different."

While the majority of spring ball practices will take place on an every-other-day type calendar, the team will next see on-field action Friday, March 19.
