YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's 2021 football schedule, featuring six home games at Rynearson Stadium for only the 16th time, was announced Friday, Feb. 26, by the Mid-American Conference.
The fan-friendly schedule includes four home games by mid-October, the first such occurrence since 2015 and only the seventh time since 2000.
An updated version of the MAC football schedule will be released in June with kick times and a television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during November. All other game times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled kick. Games will air on ESPN networks (ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU/ESPN+/ESPN3) and CBS Sports Network.
EMU kicks off the year at home against Saint Francis University (Pa.), Sept. 3, before traveling to the University of Wisconsin, Sept. 11. Eastern remains on the road with a trip to Amherst, Mass. to take on former MAC foe, the University of Massachusetts, Sept. 18. The non-conference schedule concludes Saturday, Sept. 25, with a home date against Texas State University.
Eastern Michigan opens its 46th MAC season on the road at Northern Illinois University Saturday, Oct. 2. The Eagles, who have defeated the Huskies in back-to-back seasons, will be looking for their first three-game winning streak in the rivalry since taking seven straight between 1952-58.
Miami University will be EMU's guest for the University's official 100th Annual Homecoming celebration Saturday, Oct. 9. After a virtual celebration in 2020, the most spirited week on campus returns in a tradition that began in 1920. Homecoming is packed with free and low cost events for students and alumni to enjoy.
A week later, the Green and White host the defending MAC Champion Cardinals of Ball State University, Oct. 16. EMU dropped a tight 38-31 contest in the waning moments during the 2020 season in Muncie, Ind.
Eastern then crosses the border for consecutive weeks with games against Bowling Green State University Saturday, Oct. 23, and at the University of Toledo Tuesday, Nov. 2. The game against the Rockets will kick off a three week phenomenon known as "MACtion" with the midweek showdowns.
Ypsilanti will be featured prominently on national television with Tuesday night affairs against Ohio University, Nov. 9, and Western Michigan University, Nov. 16. It marks just the second occurrence in program-history that EMU will be featured in back-to-back home #MACtion games. The first pair of such contests came during the 2016 season when EMU punched its ticket back to the postseason for the first-time in 29 years with a 26-21 win over Central Michigan University, Nov. 22, to earn a spot in the Bahamas Bowl.
Eighth-year Head Coach Chris Creighton and company wrap up the regular season on "Black Friday" at Central Michigan, Nov. 26. It marks the first time since 2015 that Eastern will close the year in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
The 25th Rocket Mortgage MAC Football Championship game will again take place in downtown Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 4. This will mark the 18th Rocket Mortgage MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
Complete ticket information and attendance policies for the 2021 season will be announced at a later date.
