Diving Has Strong Outing on Day Two of UB Diving Invite

BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University diving team had another strong showing at the University at Buffalo Diving Invitational, competing on 3-meter today, Feb. 20.
All four EMU divers once again qualified for the finals of the event, finishing seventh-or-higher in the 23-diver field in the preliminary round. Senior Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este) again paced the Eagles, finishing the opening round in second place with a score of 292.75. Freshman Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario-Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) followed, with a third-place finish after recording a season-best 287.85. Sophomore Keira Veltigian (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) notched a career-best 285.55 for fifth place, while senior Micaela Schempf (Bowling Green, Ohio-Bowling Green) posted a 278.65 for seventh place in the preliminary round.
Overall, Berger took second in the event, scoring a career-best 329.50 for the silver. Following the same trend as yesterday, Hughes once again exceeded her newly-set personal standard, this time achieving a mark of 291.15 to take fourth place. Schempf scored a season-best 283.00 for sixth place, and Veltigian ended in eighth place after a 269.25 showing.
The Eagles will wrap up the UB Diving Invite tomorrow, Feb. 21, with platform diving.
