Strefling Named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week

The senior set a career-high with 23 kills against Northern Illinois, Feb. 11.
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University volleyball senior Franki Strefling (Niles, Mich.-Buchanan) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today, Feb. 15. The honor is the first for Strefling in her career.
Strefling, an outside hitter, tallied 42 kills in two matches at Northern Illinois, Feb. 11-12, which included a career-high 23 kills in the series opener against the Huskies. She boasted a .327 hitting percentage (42-9-101) in eight sets and averaged 5.75 points and 5.38 digs per set.
The senior paced the Eagles with a career-high 23 kills and a .400 hitting percentage (23-3-50) in a 3-1 victory over NIU, Feb. 11. Strefling's 23 kills tied for fourth in program history for four sets in the modern statistical era (2008-present). The senior also posted 26 digs against the Huskies to help her surpass 1,000 career digs. She became the 17th EMU volleyball player to accomplish this feat. The following day, she continued her momentum by recording 19 attacks and 17 digs in a 3-1 loss to NIU.
Strefling leads the team in points per set (4.93), kills per set (4.67), and digs per set (4.73). Her points per set and kills per set averages both rank first in the conference.
Eastern Michigan continues MAC play Monday, Feb. 15 at Kent State University. The match is slated for 5 p.m. inside KSU's Development Center.
