Each week a number of Eagles will be honored for their success in competition

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week.

MALE NOMINEE
Name: Bryce McBride
Sport: Men's Basketball
Postition: Guard
Year: Junior
Major: Sport Management
Week's Achievements (detailed description of week's events):
Junior captain Bryce McBride was outstanding for Eastern Michigan in its pair of wins over Niagara, Dec. 8, and Florida International, Dec. 11. With its unblemished week, the Eagles are now in the midst of a season-best three-game win streak.
McBride was critical to EMU's victories in both contests. The Jackson, Tenn. native began the week with a team-best 19 point performance. That effort, his second best of the season, saw him convert on 63% of his shots and hit a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Even better on Saturday, McBride help lead the Eagles to victory in the program's first-ever 4OT game, a win which came against one of the nation's hottest teams, the Florida International Panthers; FIU entered the contest on a seven-game win streak. McBride chipped in 15 in front of a nearly 4,000-member crowd at the newly-named George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti. The special day featured the return of The Iceman to campus and the surprise renaming announcement. McBride played a whopping 49 minutes off the bench, including every second of the four extra periods that culminated with an EMU victory, 92-88.

FEMALE NOMINEE
Name: Ce'Nara Skanes
Sport: Women's Basketball
Position: Forward
Major: Therapeutic Recreation
Week's Achievements (detailed description of week's events):
Redshirt sophomore Ce'Nara Skanes had an outstanding week in her two games at Oklahoma, Dec. 7, and vs. Binghamton, Dec. 10.

The Oklahoma City native averaged as impressive 11.5 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game over the course of the two games. She hit yet another career milestone against the Sooners. In putting up 10 points and 10 boards, Skanes recorded her 16th-career double-double. That number puts her just one behind the all-time program record of 17, a number she will undoubtedly hit this season. She was one of three Eagles that scored in double figures against Big 12-power OU, and was the only player to record 10-or-more boards.

Skanes added another 13 points against Binghamton, Dec. 10, to help lead EMU to a 66-62 victory over the Bearcats.

Skanes currently ranks first in the MAC and No. 49 nationally in field goal percentage (54.7%). Additionally, she leads the conference with four double-doubles and is second in the MAC with 9.4 rebounds per game.
