Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought Match at Toledo

Samantha Basham continues hot streak with 18 kills to lead EMU
TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team could not overcome a potent University of Toledo offense Friday evening, Nov. 5, as it fell to the Rockets in straight sets (20-25, 16-25, 22-25).
The loss dropped Eastern Michigan's record to 9-16 overall and 4-10 in MAC play.
Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic) finished with 18 kills on the day to lead the Eagles offense. EMU was paced by 14 digs from sophomore defensive specialist Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-20. Toledo grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up 13 times before the Rockets took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan then dropped set two, 25-16, to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Eagles lost the first point and were never able to find a lead in the set.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan fought, but ultimately came up short in set three, 25-22. Toledo went ahead for the final time at 23-22 in the set, which was tied seven times before the Rockets took over in the second half of the stanza.

» Freshman Bella Hommes (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Northern) had the team's ace in the contest. She now has 13 on the season, good for sixth on the team.
» Basham had a match-high 18 kills for Eastern Michigan.
» Eastern Michigan attackers were helped by a team-high 27 assists from sophomore setter Jayden Otto (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge).
