EMU's Chase and Basham Take Home All-MAC Honors

Redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase named First Team All-MAC and sophomore Samantha Basham named Second Team
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball program saw two players receive All-Mid-American Conference honors, as redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ontario-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic) earned First Team All-MAC honors and sophomore Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic) tabbed Second Team All-MAC honors. The teams were decided by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches the MAC office announced today, Nov. 20.
A two-time Academic All-MAC selection, this is Chase's first time with the first team distinction. As for Basham, this is the outside hitter's first postseason MAC selection.
Overall, this is the fourth-straight season Eastern Michigan has tabbed a volleyball student-athlete on the first team. Chase is the 20th EMU player to receive the award. Basham is the 17th EMU volleyball student-athlete to garner the second team distinction.
In her third season, Chase finished first in the conference with 135 total blocks and 1.23 blocks per set, and third in the league in hitting percentage (.352). The Toronto, Ontario native finished 10th in the regular season in the NCAA in total blocks (135) and fourth in the nation in solo blocks (36). Chase also moved into sixth all-time in program history with 62 career solo blocks. Additionally, her 36 solo blocks in 2021 ranks eighth in the program's record book for solo blocks in a single season.
Basham led the Eagles in kills (361) and is tied for fifth in the MAC in kills per set (3.34). Additionally, the sophomore is tied for fifth in the conference in points per set (3.73). The outside hitter also tallied double-digit kills in 18 matches this season, a team-high. The Granville, Ohio native also posted three matches with 20-plus kills in 2021, including a career-high 23 at Ohio, Oct. 8.
EMU finished the 2021 season with an overall record of 4-19 to close out the season.
