Volleyball Drops Season Finale at Central Michigan

The Chippewas defeat the Eagles in three sets on Wednesday night
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --The Eastern Michigan volleyball team fell to the Central Michigan Chippewas in three sets (18-25, 22-25, 20-25) Wednesday, Nov. 17 on the road at McGuirk Arena.
The loss dropped Eastern Michigan's record to 9-20 overall and 4-14 in MAC play to conclude the 2021 season.
The Eagles' offense was paced by redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ontario-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic), who finished with 17 kills while accumulating a hitting percentage of .538. Redshirt freshman Krista Blakely (Detroit, Mich.-University High School Academy) added 12 kills.
Defensively, EMU had three players reach double figures in digs, including sophomore Kamryn Stilwell's (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) 19, 16 from sophomore Jayden Otto (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge), and 12 more from fellow sophomore Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic). From the front row, Chase contributed five blocks.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-18. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as eight points as Central Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up two times before the Chippewas took control.
SET 2 | A 25-22 second-set loss put Eastern Michigan in a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Eagles fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Central Michigan finished the sweep in the third set. The Eagles came up short by the score of 25-20. Central Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was tied up nine times before the Chippewas took over in the second half of the stanza.
